Have you ever found yourself listening to music and suddenly a song comes on that reminds you of another song? That’s what happened to me about a week ago. I was listening to a song that Beyonce was a feature on and it sent me down a wormhole of Beyonce’s growing discography. It’s crazy to think that Beyonce (whether in Destiny’s Child or solo) has been apart of the playlist of my life for over 20 years. I decided to dedicate this Fab Five post to the Queen Bee.
Dangerously In Love – Be With You

First of all, everyone knew it was coming. After years of honing her skills in the R&B/Pop female group, Destiny’s Child, Beyonce’s dropped her debut solo album in 2003. I was a senior in high school. The debut single “Crazy In Love” featuring Jay-Z was banging on the radio accompanied by an energetic music video. Although “Crazy In Love” was a fun song (and still is), the slow and dramatic song, “Be With You”, is my favorite. Beyonce shows her vocal range. It speaks on love and love making. The song shows maturity yet still a naivety when it comes to relationships.
4 – I Care

The song “I Care” grips me from the beginning. The sincerity in Beyonce’s voice and the lyrics wrap around the instruments perfectly. I feel like I’m eavesdropping on a phone call between a friend and her soon-to-be ex-boo. I already know what I would say when she hangs up the phone…“leave him girl”.
verse excerpt from I Care
“I told you how you hurt me, baby
But you don’t care
Now I’m crying and deserted, baby
But you don’t care “
4 – Start Over

Relationships sometimes go through rough times. When you’ve been with someone long enough you’re bound to tip-toe on the line of separation. I feel this song details the emotions that go through your mind when you’re not ready to move on. Let’s stop the fighting and just love again.
4 “Deluxe Edition” – Schoolin’ Life

“Schoolin’ Life” is the song that I forget about until it’s sprung on me. But as soon as it comes on I have to turn it up, and if I’m driving I have to step on the gas. It always gets me hype. The song is an energetic ode to coming of age as a woman and also the different phases of life we go through.
“At fourteen they asked me what I wanna be,
verse excerpt Beyonce Schoolin’ Life
I said “Baby twenty one, so I’d get me a drink.”
Beyonce – XO

This song reminds me of the sensation you feel in your heart as you’re falling in love. Imagine you’re a child running down a steep hill. You try to keep your balance and remain upright. However, the further down you go the quicker your feet move and before you know it you’re tumbling. Who knows where you’ll land (hopefully, somewhere soft). But then again…who cares…you’re in love.
This list was harder to cultivate than you think. I easily had a list of 8 to 10 songs. If you’re favorite is not on the list tell me below!
If you’re feeling this list, tell me below! If you think I should do another list, tell me which list you would like me to make?
