Skin Care Travel Essentials

So Glam

Maintaining healthy skin while traveling can seem like an impossible task. However, with the proper planning it doesn’t have to be. Here’s a list of items that can help you stay “fresh-faced” while on the go.

pore strips 1

  • Pore Strips

Pore strips are a life saver if you’re susceptible to blackheads like myself. They cling to oily pores and remove deep embedded oil and dirt. They come in several options with varying prices. They are easy to pack. Slip a package of pore strips into your carry-on bag and it should last you the duration of your trip.

face brush2

  • Exfoliator

Whether it’s a battery operated spin brush, a hand facial brush, or face wash with micro-beads, something to exfoliate your face is needed. Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin and pesky dirt. It also helps with blood circulation to areas of the face. Exfoliation is the best way to achieve glowing skin while on the road.

Clean & Clear-persa-gel_1

  • Spot Acne Treatment

Pimples are no fun when traveling. The last thing you want when interacting with people is a mountain protruding through your skin. A handy spot acne treatment can help to minimize the look of your pimples and shorten their lifespan. Most spot acne treatments are inexpensive. Regardless of the price, it’s nice to have the insurance of having the product with you if needed.

Witch Hazel

  • Cleaner/Astringent

Obviously one of the main keys to traveling with clear skin is making sure you cleanse your skin. Water, which is inexpensive and easily attainable, will typically suffice. If you feel you need something stronger, consider bringing a cleansing product that doubles as a toner. A good example of this is witch hazel. Witch hazel is a natural astringent that removes bacteria and balances the pH levels of the skin.

  • Sunscreen

Sunscreen is an often overlooked element of good skin care. Protecting your skin from the sun is important. That goes for all shades of skin. Some can get away with a lower SPF number than others. Find one that works for you and your travel buddies. If you want to save room in your carry-on bag or luggage, consider purchasing your sunscreen at the hotel or hostel once you arrive at your destination.

oil absorbing sheet

  • Oil Absorbing Sheets

Oil absorbing sheets have been a must-have for me when I travel. They’re so convenient. They are easy to pack and you can use them anywhere. If you have oily or combination skin, then you should consider throwing a pack in your purse, carry-on bag, or luggage.

  • Additional Things To Consider
  1. Drink Water – Avoid sugary drinks and juices. Some are sensitive to sugary, carbonated beverages. The results of too much sugar can show up on your skin.
  2. Loose Fitting Clothing – If you are prone to body acne then remember to wear loose fitting clothing that allows skin to breathe.
  3. Travel Size Bottles – Travel size bottles come in all shapes and colors. Most are TSA approved, so there is less worry about being pulled aside at the airport.

I hope you found these tips helpful. Safe travels!

Hydro Boost Hydrating Face Mask with | Neutrogena – Review

Neutrogena mask 2

The winter months can be brutal on skin. My combination skin really struggles during the cooler months of the year. The dry areas of my face are at the bridge of my nose and sometimes the areas extend to below my eyes. The rest of my face (the tip of my nose, cheeks, forehead, temples, and chin) is oily enough to fry chicken on, especially when I am PMS-ing.

In an effort to stay on top of my ever-evolving facial needs, lately I have upped the ante on my skin care routine. Once a week I treat myself to an “at-home-spa” which means I go all out with cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing my skin. I decided to try and review the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Mask to see how well it works on my combination skin.

Neutrogena rolled out their Hydro Boost collection sometime in 2016. I will admit, I have little-to-no experience using Neutrogena products. I’ve always felt they were slightly expensive compared to other product lines and I didn’t feel compelled to spend the extra coins. The Hydro Boost collection is no exception. The reason it has taken me so long to try any of the featured products is because they do have a higher price point. When I noticed the single packets of the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Masks were available at my local Wal-Mart for an affordable price I had to finally try it.

Product Claims

This innovative hydrogel mask instantly quenches dry skin, leaving it hydrated, smooth, and supple.

Notable Ingredients

  • PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil – surfactant that helps water mix with oil and dirt so they can be rinsed away
  • Tremella Fucicormis Sporocarp Extract – fungus extract used to stimulate cell growth
  • Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid – powerful humectant used to plump and hydrate skin
  • Chondras Crispus (Carrageenan) Extract – red seaweed extract full of vitamins and minerals and used for UV ray protection

This is actually the second time I have tried this mask. The first time I was over-whelmed with the application process. The mask comes in two halves. It is very slimy. My advice is to lightly squeeze the package after opening and empty out some of the excess product. This will help you grip the mask and apply it. The instructions state to leave the mask on for 15 to 30 minutes. The first time I used it I left it on for 30 minutes, and the second time I left it on for 15 minutes. Honestly, I think 15 minutes is more than enough.

My Results

This mask is very refreshing. The cooling sensation would feel great in the warmer months. After you remove the mask there is a light amount of product that remains on your face. Simply massage the remaining product into your skin. My face felt soft for hours after the application. Since this is a product that you will more than likely rinse off at the end of the day, the results don’t last. However, the Hydro Boost collection includes a hydrating cleanser, serum, and moisturizing gel so I believe using these products in combination would leave your skin highly hydrated for a longer period of time.

Since I liked the results I feel inclined to purchase and try several of the other items in this collection. I am especially considering using the Hydro Boost Eye Gel.

If you have used this product or any of the products in the Hydro Boost collection let me know!

Dañar (damage)

Some would say “change is good”. Even the one and only Stevie Nicks said,

“…But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I’m getting older, too.”

song Landslide

The season is changing here in Oklahoma. Fall is slowly evolving into winter. I personally am not a big fan of winter. However, this year I am determined to allow Mother Nature have its way. I am not in control. All I can do is prepare myself (hello new winter clothes). Of course, I will have a few gripes throughout the winter months (I am only human). The seasons changing are expected. Then there comes the unexpected changes like when you walk into a hair salon full of optimism and leave with bewilderment. Yes, I know that seems like an odd redirection. But I speak from personal experience. Change can be gradual or come out of nowhere and smack you in the face, then step back and dare you to react.

“Now what sucka?”

Yea, it can…well…suck. There’s no prep for those sudden changes. Sure we have insurance for accidents. We also have advice from other’s based on their own experiences. But it’s always the unexpected that we have no place of reference for or a guide to walk us through step-by-step. You have to shift your thinking, or approach, or even your entire mindset.

The only thing we can ever truly control is how we react to the things that happen to us or around us. Look on the bright side, reel in our emotions, or spin out of control. The choice is up to us.

Product Review: Livesay Orchards Peach Jam

Hey y’all! It has been quite some time since I last posted a product review on my blog. Lately I have saved most of my product reviews for my YouTube channel. Which if you haven’t subscribed to yet, you should be ashamed! Just kidding.

The product I am reviewing is Livesay Orchards Peach Jam. I purchased this item at the 50th Annual Peach Festival in Porter, Oklahoma a few weekends ago. My husband and I have tried the product and here is what we think.

The packaging was simple and colorful. The product name and ingredients were easy to read. For the amount that I paid for the product ($4.99) I felt like I got an ample amount of jam.

The jam has a simple ingredients list and that simplicity is what I tasted in this product. The jam had a strong peach flavor, but did not taste like imitation peach flavoring at all (example. peach flavored soda pop or Jolly Ranchers). The product consistency was great. It spread very easily.

Final Thoughts

I really like this product. I mainly like it because of the simplicity of it. Of course I also like it because it is made right here in Oklahoma. I don’t think it is too pricey. I feel it maybe a little pricey compared to other brands you would find in the store. However, knowing where the product comes from makes it worth it to me.

Livesay Orchards has a variety of products including products other than peaches. However, peaches are an obvious choice when looking to purchase some of their items.

Have you tried any of the Livesay Orchards peaches? What about their other products? Let me know!

Thanks for reading y’all!

What’s In My Bag – My Must Haves On The Go!

The must haves for women can vary. Some women have to have their favorite lip stick. Some women have to have a mirror. I, on the other hand, am a lil different in my needs. Here are the items that I toss in my bag when I am on the go.

Samsung Galaxy Lite

  •  Samsung Galaxy Lite – I’ve had this phone for a year now. I am not someone who regularly upgrades their phones. I am not that into technology. However, when my old phone was on the fritz last year and I knew I needed to upgrade I did my research and decided on the Samsung Galaxy Lite. Truthfully the only thing that makes this different from the regular Samsung Galaxy is the size. I didn’t want a mini movie screen for a phone. This phone does everything I need and then some. Even now I am still finding new things I can do with this phone. When I purchased this phone I also bought the portable charger (in a matching color). This charger comes in handy when you’re not sure of where your next power supply will be found. This allows me some extra reassurance that I won’t be without a life line to the world.
Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets

Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets

  •  If you watched my Summer Favorites video on my YouTube channel than you already know I am a fan of this item. The Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets are awesome and very handy. My face can become very oily so these sheets help a lot. These allow me to be camera ready with very little effort.
Honestly Margo chapstick

Honestly Margo chapstick

  •  Chapped lips are annoying. Plain and simple…annoying. If my lips feel dry it can be distracting. Chap stick is a often overlooked beauty item. I try to always keep it on hand. One of my particular lippy favorites is this one from Honestly Margo. The velvety li balm feels great on my lips and doesn’t have a nasty taste. Go to for more products and information.
Bendable tripod

Bendable tripod

  •  In my short period of time blogging and vlogging I have learned that you never know when a photo or video opportunity may arise, so be prepared. The first tripod I purchased was this one. I call it my “monkey” tripod because you can bend and arrange the legs however you want to get the shot you need. This tripod also bends to fit into small spaces, like my purse. The only draw back is it can not expand to a taller height. I purchased this one from Walmart and unfortunately I do not remember the name of the brand.
Year Journal

Year Journal

  •  One of my New Years resolutions for 2015 was to get more organized. So I bought this journal and I am so glad that I did. I open this journal up at least once a week every week to see what I have going on for the day, week or month. With work, home life, church activities, this website and my YouTube channel sometimes it’s hard to keep track. This little journal helps me out tremendously. I bought it at Walmart for less than $5. I definitely recommend purchasing something like this.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today. These were just a few of my must haves. What are the things that you have to have on you at all times? Let me know in the comments below!

As always you can find me on my other social media hubs: Facebook, Instagram and YouTube…Colormyfootsteps (all one word) for all those sites.

My Sugar Sisters Product Review

Sugar Sisters travel set

Sugar Sisters travel set

Scrolling through Instagram one day I came across the Instagram of Oklahoma’s own Sugar Sisters. Of course as soon as I read they were from Oklahoma I had to find out more so I went to their website. I looked through every tab on the website including the bio, and yes they are sisters. I looked through the products they offer and decided on the travel set. I mean it just made sense to try the travel set since I have a travel blog and it would allow me to sample the products without the risk of buying a full size item that I may not like. Alright let’s get down to the nitty-gritty!

What I Ordered

As mentioned above, I ordered the travel set. The travel set is composed of:

  • Full Body Exfoliator Sugar Scrub
  • Body Butter
  • Body Mist

You can choose which scent from their selection that you would like your travel set to come in. Based on the scent descriptions I chose the Birthday Suit scent.

First I should start by saying that I noticed the packing in the initial Instagram photo that I looked at. It caught my eye right away. I think for an upcoming company they made a good choice on the design aspects. Everything is soft and feminine without being juvenile girl-ish (does that make sense?? I hope so). When I opened up my package I got exactly what I expected. The products came in a cute mesh bag with a ribbon closure. The containers were the perfect trial and travel size. Sometimes when purchasing travel items you end up with products you can only get approximately 2 to 3 uses out of. From the first glance I knew based on quantity alone I got my monies worth. For the three 2 ounce containers it was $20 (minus shipping).

Body Mist

  • Sight: I’m not sure if it’s the color of the body mist container or the natural look of the body mist but it was an opaque liquid.
  • Application: I sprayed the body mist on before I left the house for a full day of work.

Body Mist: The body mist was what I expected. I sprayed it onto a few places, making sure it contacted my skin. There’s not much to say about the feel of it because well… it’s a body mist.

Sugar Scrub

Sugar Scrub

Full Body Exfoliator Sugar Scrub

  • Sight: This was my first time using a sugar scrub. The consistency of the product looked thick but also soft and fluid.
  • Application: I chose to take small amounts of the product in the palm of my hands and rub it onto my body while in the shower.

Full Body Exfoliator Sugar Scrub: This product was softer on my skin than I expected it to be. The sugar scrub felt so good on the areas of my body that are prone to dryness and itching (shoulders, lower back, knees and my feet). I chose to not use another soap along with this product so I could get the full effect of it. I would recommend that you use this after you wash with your preferred soap. The product did leave a somewhat oily residue (it contains grape seed oil, coconut oil, sweet almond oil and meadowfoam seed oil). I believe there was residue because I didn’t thoroughly rinse it off in the shower. So I went back over my body with a damp wash cloth to remove some of the excess oil.

Body Butter...You're my boo

Body Butter…You’re my boo

Body Butter

  • Sight: The body butter appeared very rich and creamy.
  • Application: I applied the body butter to my arms right after I showered (using the sugar scrub).

Body Butter: Out of the three products the body butter is my favorite…for now lol. I tend to stick with the same lotion (Vaseline Aloe Vera), so I’m always a little hesitant to try anything new. Some lotions and butters are too thick and some are too runny and don’t moisturize. This body butter has been perfect. It dissolves easily into my skin. If you remember my birthday blog post my feet have been struggling this winter. I applied the body butter to them post shower and it made my feet super soft and moisturized. It has to be the combination of oils in this product that provide such softness (jojoba oils, hemp oil and borage seed oil).

Finally to answer the questions you’ve probably been wanting me to finally get to…

How does it smell? I spent the first 20 minutes sniffing and then re-sniffing these products trying to figure that out. The website describes the Birthday Suit scent to have a honeydew and strawberries with a hint of coconut fragrance. After long contemplation it finally hit me…Kool-aid! Yep the scent reminded me of being a kid, when you are making Kool-aid and you rip open the package, pour it in, and you get the first whiff of the powder. In this case it was strawberry Kool-aid lol. Does it last? The fragrance did last most of my day. I think if you’re looking for something strong and robust that will stay noticeable all day then you might need to apply a heavy amount.

That’s it y’all! I encourage you to visit the company website at and see what they have to offer. They have plenty of scents to choose from like Lil’ Black Dress, Common Sutra, Daydreamin’ and Pillow Talk to name a few.

Oklahoma made!
