We stopped by the Annual Porter Peach Festival!

Tulsa hosted a Local Luau at Guthrie Green in downtown Tulsa! We stopped by and had a great time and ate some delicious food!

May Photo Wrap-Up 2017

Hey y’all hey!

I can’t believe it, but it’s the end of May! To be honest, I had a somewhat uneventful month. But none the less I took a few pictures here and there and put up a few videos!

One of the most important things I did in May was celebrate Mother’s Day with my mom! We had a great time hanging out in downtown Tulsa at the Guthrie Green. We also had good food and great conversations.

If you have been to downtown Tulsa lately than you must have noticed the addition of artwork on the walls of several buildings. I personally love the colorful additions to downtown. The artwork really brings a new energy to downtown Tulsa.

My sweet tooth has been in overdrive lately. Although it’s still chocolate I decided to try a gluten free option. This one was actually pretty tasty.

David and I stopped by the Bixby Barbecue Festival. We enjoyed great food (we really stuffed ourselves). If you are in the area, I suggest stopping by next year to see the festival and eat some great barbecue. The event is very family friendly.

I hope you had a great month of May. I look forward to awesome adventures in the month of June.

April Photo Wrap-Up 2017

Hey everyone!

The time has arrived once again for the monthly Photo Wrap-Up. So here’s a peek at what went on with me throughout the month of April!

Before I get carried away with this post I should mention my Spring Favorites video. Just in case you missed it!

Now on to the rest of April!

David and I visited the most iconic waterfall in Northeast Oklahoma, Natural Falls. The area was very beautiful and worth a trip if you’re in the area.

As you know, David and I are definitely foodies. We strayed away from our typical breakfast spot, Village Inn, and decided to eat at IHOP (Internal House of Pancakes). Let’s just say a buy one meal get one free coupon may have seductively influenced that decision.

I am doing much better handling my stress levels at work. March was a hard month for me. However, I am pushing through. Like the saying goes, once you’ve hit the bottom the only place to go is UP!

We enjoyed a wonderful Easter weekend. It was a little rainy, but that is typical for Oklahoma weather around this time. I can’t complain. I also began my manual car lessons. I never thought that I would be learning how to drive a stick shift in my 30’s.

I got a much needed hair trim. Sometimes it’s the little things that really add up and make a difference. I am really enjoying my hair now. This natural hair journey is not always easy. There are times I get so frustrated but there are times that are completely great! You have to take the bad with the good. Enjoy the good times while you can.

Thank you guys for reading! You are awesome! YES YOU!

Of course I have to show you what I have been nimbling on this month. Naturbox is a wonderful company if you are wanting to find new and tasty snacks.

David and I also made our first trip to Denver, CO.! We had a great time exploring the beautiful and friendly city.

It’s hard to have a post and not include at least one picture of the sunrise! If you haven’t taken a look at the sunrise lately than I encourage you to do so soon!

Since spring is now officially here, check out my Spring Faves video for the products I am enjoying!

Thanks for stopping by the blog! Have a wonderful April. You know what they say “April showers bring May flowers”.

February 2017 Photo Wrap-Up

Hey everyone!

Of course we all should have seen it coming. February is the shortest month of the year and it still seems like a surprise when it flies by. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind if each month was this short. No offense to any of you who were born later any calendar month, lol. Well here it is, a little behind the scenes of what I have been up to the month of February.

Retail slows down for no one. I found this cute Easter egg themed package of M&M candies at one of my local Dollar General stores. BUT this was the same week as Valentine’s Day. Yep! The Valentine’s chocolates hadn’t had the chance to become stale before the Easter candy was already on the shelves.

Sometimes you have to give yourself a break. But if you’re a natural hair chick like myself sometimes you have to give your hair a break. I finally let my hair hang (or I guess I should say puff) free. After 7 weeks of letting my hair rest beneath a protective style, I have decided to let see what my hair has been up to. It really grew and seems so full of body. Of course this won’t last long because it will soon be back in some sort of protective style.

Some time last year I fell in love with the sunrise (which if you follow me on Instagram you can probably tell ). The array of colors is always so unique and vibrant. The sun welcoming in a brand new day. There is something magical about it. If you haven’t stopped to take in the sunrise I encourage you to do so.

Welp, that’s all I have for you this month. I know it wasn’t a lot but you can always find me on my other platforms; Facebook, Instagram and YouTube! Thanks for reading!

Tulsa Food Tour 2.0 – Lassalle’s New Orleans Deli, Bill & Ruth’s and Sushi Train

Hey everyone!

This is the third and final part to our Tulsa Food Tour 2.0! We hope you have enjoyed discovering all the yummy places we have ventured to here in Tulsa. For Part 3 of the tour we decided to visit places that weren’t new to us but we knew that they were little gems that some people might not know about.

  • Lassalle’s New Orleans Deli – 15 W 5th St. Tulsa, OK

David introduced me to this place a few years ago when it was at its former location. The owners are New Orleans natives who were uprooted by Hurricane Katrina years ago. They made a home for themselves in Tulsa and decided to introduce their culture to our growing city through food. Everything I have eaten at Lassalle’s has been awesome. This is not a place to go if you’re on a diet. Fried food, buttered food, sauces galore. This place has it all. David and I had the Pick 2 option on our recent visit. I chose the seafood Po boy, with fried shrimp and fried catfish, and the crawfish etouffee. The seafood in the Po boy was hot and crispy. The “WOW” sauce they add to it amps up the flavor a lot. The etouffee was flavorful with a subtle spice. David had the muffelatta, with ham and salomi, and red beans and rice. He really enjoyed his choices. The red beans and rice is very savory.

  • Bill & Ruth’s – 3202 s. Memorial Dr.

If you’re in Tulsa for a while it won’t take long for you to notice that there are Bill & Ruth’s locations all over. Bill & Ruth’s is kind of like a local restaurant chain, with each location adding its own pizazz to the menu. This particular one is one that David has been eating at for over 5 years. The owner, Sam, has been there for over 20 years. Needless to say, he knows his food. The menu offers some of the lunchtime staples like sandwiches and salads but it also offers Lebanese options. So if you’re hungry for a sub or a gyro you can get it here.

We ordered an array of items from the menu. I wanted something light but filling so I took a recommendation from David and ordered the chicken salad. It was large and fresh. The chicken was grilled and seasoned perfectly. David ordered the kafta kabob pocket, which is a beef kabob he orders regularly. We also split an order of cabbage rolls and a chicken gyro. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs because we couldn’t finish it all. This Bill & Ruth’s location is worth stopping by.

  • Sushi Train – 3300 e. 51st St, Tulsa, OK

When it comes to sushi for David and I, Sushi Train is our go-to spot. We’ve tried other locations but there is something about the no-frills feeling of Sushi Train that we like. The service is always great and the food doesn’t disappoint.

img_2194

Lisa Roll

Sushi train is nestled on the corner of a shopping center near several popular food chains like Chili’s, Papa Johns and Starbucks. But this little sushi spot holds its own. There’s always a good crowd and something good playing on the televisions. You can grab color coded plates of sushi from the toy train, hence the name “sushi train”, or you can order from their large menu.

img_2206

Now we don’t consider ourselves to be sushi connoisseurs but we do know what tastes good. There is so much to choose from. You will for sure find something worth trying at Sushi Train. Pop in and you may find us sitting across from you.

I hope you all have enjoyed the Tulsa Food Tour 2.0. This was so much fun to do and we had a blast stuffing our bellies for your enjoyment.

Catch the vlog of Part 3 below! Which was your favorite restaurant we featured. Comment and let us know!

Art & Oysters – Art on Main and Oysterfest 2016

Hey everyone!

img_1689

photo: Colormyfootsteps

This past weekend was such a beautiful weekend. David and I couldn’t wait to get out and enjoy the weather. We decided to make a few stops at some local events. We had a great time and of course we want to share it with you.

Our first destination was Art on Main in Jenks, OK. We arrived and David grabbed something to eat right away. There were a few local food trucks that I am familiar with. David decided on a pulled pork sandwich from The Local Table food truck. Once he finished we walked around admiring the art showcased at several of the art booths (tents). Live music, face painting and inflatables for the kids were on the scene. Of course art was on display by the artists. There were some awesome pieces available for purchase. A few of the artists that we were impressed with were Chris Hopkins and Kris Fairchild. Both artists reside here in Oklahoma.

img_1672

photo: Colormyfootsteps

Since we didn’t plan on purchasing any pieces of art we decided to cut our stay short.

Our second destination was Oysterfest 2016 at Guthrie Green in downtown Tulsa. Live music and a variety of booths offering their own oyster presentations were a part of the event. We looked around and took in the atmosphere before purchasing our tickets to try a few of the oyster choices. The money raised goes to the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. We tried three booths total. I’ll be honest oysters are a required taste but I can see why some people find them tasty. There is a light seafood flavor to them. If they are prepared a certain way they can be spicy and/or smoky.

We had a wonderful time seeing what the Tulsa area had to offer this past weekend. I hope you got out there to enjoy the fall weather.

September Photo Wrap-Up 2016

Hey everyone!

I can’t believe we are wrapping up September already! This has been a good month. The weather has started to cool down and I have to admit…I am not complaining. It’s nice to have a change in the weather. If you have been watching the YouTube channel than you probably have noticed our Tulsa Food Tour. David and I had fun showing y’all around. We also celebrated David’s birthday and our wedding anniversary. Enjoy the pics.

We were thrilled to be invited to Char Broil Nights at Oklahoma Joe’s. The event was put on to showcase some of Char Broil’s new products and what better way to showcase grilling essentials than to throw a cool barbecue. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. If you haven’t stopped by Oklahoma Joe’s on 61st and Sheridan than please do!

David had a birthday this month and we celebrated our wedding anniversary. Since we had been eating out a lot lately (see the above mention of the food tour) David and I took a simply path to celebrate.

I don’t know what it is about the sunrises this month. They have been simply breathtaking. The way the colors melt together and blend seamlessly just makes me so happy. Everyday is a gift and the sunrise is proof of that.

Thank y’all for stopping by my neck of the world wide web. I hope your month was great. October is around the corner. Let’s get ready!

Tulsa Food Tour Part 2 – Mom’s Family Diner & Tally’s Good Food Cafe

So how these things seem to go is if there is a Part 1 there must be a Part 2 correct? Yep that’s correct. The Tulsa Food Tour continues with stops at a couple of places with good home cooking. The kind of food that keeps your feet planted on the ground. The kind of food you don’t regret. The kind of food that you know for sure you got your money’s worth. Our search for good eats in Tulsa brought us to Mom’s Family Diner and Tally’s Good Food Cafe.

  • Mom’s Family Diner – 4101 S Mingo Rd, Tulsa, OK 74146

Mom’s Family Diner was suggested to David and I by none other than my own mom. She had eaten there numerous times and was always singing its praises. We decided this was a perfect time to give it a shot. We arrived early on a Saturday morning and the place was filling up. We grabbed ourselves a booth and were quickly greeted and offered coffee and water. The place was actually bigger inside than it looks from the outside. There were plenty of tables and booths. There was even a counter for those who prefer to sit on bar stools and watch television while they dine. The atmosphere was very laid back and bright. We ordered our food and chatted for a bit before it arrived. The staff was very attentive to us, making sure our coffee didn’t run low. When our food arrived I was so happy because I knew we were going to get more than our fill. Our food was delicious! We had an array of eggs, pancakes, waffles, hash browns, home fries, ham steak and biscuits with gravy. I believe for our three orders the total was under $40. I without hesitation recommend this place to eat if you’re looking for breakfast.

  • Tally’s Good Food Cafe – 1102 S Yale Ave, Tulsa, OK 74112

Our second stop of Part 2 took us to an iconic restaurant on Route 66, Tally’s Good Food Cafe. This was my first time having the pleasure of dining at Tally’s. Tally’s opened in 1987 and has been a piece of Tulsa ever since. Tally’s is known for their big entrees and big cinnamon rolls (we’ll get to that later). You can’t miss Tally’s, it’s right on the corner and in the evening hours it is well lit. Upon entering you’re taken back into a 1950’s atmosphere. We sat in a booth and a waitress took our order. I decided on the chicken fried steak dinner (something Tally’s is known for). David chose the Lebanon burger (the owner, Tally Alame, is Lebanese). While waiting for our food we enjoyed the ambiance of the place and jammed out to the music. Our food looked pretty impressive. It had been years since I had chicken fried steak. Tally’s did not disappoint me. Everything tasted great. David really liked his burger and fries. David is not one to pass on dessert, so we ordered the cinnamon roll. The waitress joked as she placed the cinnamon roll in front of us, “You didn’t know what you were getting yourself into did ya”. No ma’m we did not. The cinnamon roll took up the entire to-go box. We were so glad we got it to-go (and I believe our stomachs were too). Our meal came to less than $35. I say for what we ordered that’s a pretty good deal.

photo: colormyfootsteps

After we stuffed ourselves at Tally’s we decided to check out Tulsa’s dedication to Route 66 near downtown Tulsa and Riverside. The flags of each state that are apart of Route 66 are represented at the spot. I recommend stopping by there simply to see it for yourself.

June/July Photo Wrap-Up 2016

Hey y’all! So I completely forgot to do a photo wrap-up for June. Since I didn’t take many pictures June or so far into July I decided to mash them together. Enjoy!

PhotoGrid_1469564203397

June kicked off the beginning of summer! I made sure to snack on some summer favorites of mine. I also refused to let the summer heat keep me from enjoying the outdoors.

PhotoGrid_1469564479346

June also brought fun times with friends! It was a lot of fun and much needed girl time.

PhotoGrid_1469564378102

Of course David and I had to get some good EATS! Early in the month of July we stopped by Upper Crust at 9110 S Yale Ave, in Tulsa. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was pretty laid back.

Was that not enough Colormyfootsteps for you? Well, don’t forget to follow me on my other social media platforms (Instagram: Colormyfootsteps, Facebook: Colormyfootsteps) to see what else I get into. Of course you can find me on YouTube as well.

Hanging around town!

David and I at the OKC Wellness and Fitness Expo!

My mom and I at the 50th Annual Porter Peach Festival!

Thanks for stopping by my neck of the blogging woods. I’ll see you guys and girls later!
