Tulsa Food Tour 2.0 – Lassalle’s New Orleans Deli, Bill & Ruth’s and Sushi Train

This is the third and final part to our Tulsa Food Tour 2.0! We hope you have enjoyed discovering all the yummy places we have ventured to here in Tulsa. For Part 3 of the tour we decided to visit places that weren’t new to us but we knew that they were little gems that some people might not know about.

• Lassalle’s New Orleans Deli – 15 W 5th St. Tulsa, OK

David introduced me to this place a few years ago when it was at its former location. The owners are New Orleans natives who were uprooted by Hurricane Katrina years ago. They made a home for themselves in Tulsa and decided to introduce their culture to our growing city through food. Everything I have eaten at Lassalle’s has been awesome. This is not a place to go if you’re on a diet. Fried food, buttered food, sauces galore. This place has it all. David and I had the Pick 2 option on our recent visit. I chose the seafood Po boy, with fried shrimp and fried catfish, and the crawfish etouffee. The seafood in the Po boy was hot and crispy. The “WOW” sauce they add to it amps up the flavor a lot. The etouffee was flavorful with a subtle spice. David had the muffelatta, with ham and salomi, and red beans and rice. He really enjoyed his choices. The red beans and rice is very savory.

• Bill & Ruth’s – 3202 s. Memorial Dr.

If you’re in Tulsa for a while it won’t take long for you to notice that there are Bill & Ruth’s locations all over. Bill & Ruth’s is kind of like a local restaurant chain, with each location adding its own pizazz to the menu. This particular one is one that David has been eating at for over 5 years. The owner, Sam, has been there for over 20 years. Needless to say, he knows his food. The menu offers some of the lunchtime staples like sandwiches and salads but it also offers Lebanese options. So if you’re hungry for a sub or a gyro you can get it here.

 

 

We ordered an array of items from the menu. I wanted something light but filling so I took a recommendation from David and ordered the chicken salad. It was large and fresh. The chicken was grilled and seasoned perfectly. David ordered the kafta kabob pocket, which is a beef kabob he orders regularly. We also split an order of cabbage rolls and a chicken gyro. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs because we couldn’t finish it all. This Bill & Ruth’s location is worth stopping by.

• Sushi Train – 3300 e. 51st St, Tulsa, OK

When it comes to sushi for David and I, Sushi Train is our go-to spot. We’ve tried other locations but there is something about the no-frills feeling of Sushi Train that we like. The service is always great and the food doesn’t disappoint.

Sushi train is nestled on the corner of a shopping center near several popular food chains like Chili’s, Papa Johns and Starbucks. But this little sushi spot holds its own. There’s always a good crowd and something good playing on the televisions. You can grab color coded plates of sushi from the toy train, hence the name “sushi train”, or you can order from their large menu.

Now we don’t consider ourselves to be sushi connoisseurs but we do know what tastes good. There is so much to choose from. You will for sure find something worth trying at Sushi Train. Pop in and you may find us sitting across from you.
