January 2017 Photo Wrap-Up

Hey y’all!

The year 2017 is in full effect! The month is winding down and I can’t believe how quickly the days have flown by. I know it’s been awhile since my last Photo Wrap-Up but I haven’t given up on it entirely. So I’m back kicking off this years first collage of randomness from the month of January!

I don’t know if I told you but my husband, David, loves his supplements. I joke with him that he is “pickling” himself. Every once in a while I decide to try one of his new additions to his health regimen. We began taking MCT oil. MCT stands for medium chain triglyceride. It’s a “healthy” fat that when ingested goes straight to your liver and your body uses it for fuel. I have been adding a teaspoon of it to my coffee a few times a week and so far so good. Check with me in a few months to see if I’m still on board the MCT oil train.

Of course with the new year means a renewed sense of bettering yourself. Although I never entirely quit working out towards the end of 2016, I wasn’t necessarily in a workout groove. I am definitely kicking my workout regimen into high gear this year. Since I have such a sedentary job, it is important for me to make sure I remain active in my free time.

Out with the old and in with the new! I have decided to update my living room decor. I am trying to be frugal in this endeavor. I’ve spent some time on Pinterest getting inspiration. This decor update is way overdue! You can see some of the items I have purchased here.

Before I wrap this up I have to mention I celebrated another year on this earth. I turned 31 this year and had a wonderful time with loved ones celebrating. Turning 30 last year was a little tumultuous for me, but this year I felt excited about becoming a year older. If you’re concerned about getting up there in years you can check out my last post here.

Thanks for reading. I hope January was as good to you as it was to me. Have a wonderful February!

3 Ways 30 Is The New 20!

I turned 31 this week. Do I feel any different? No. However, now that I have experienced 1 full year of being a 30-year-old woman I thought I would give some notable observations that I have made on how my 30’s (so far) seem to differ from my 20’s. Hopefully you find these observations helpful!

  • You “Love” with Certainty

I think most of us can agree that in our twenties we weren’t 100 percent sure of what we were looking for in a significant other. All brawn, no brains. Exceptionally smart, but doesn’t make you hot under the collar. We’ve dated the jock, the intellectual, the player, the bad-boy and a few mama’s boys. For the fellas reading, I’m sure you’ve had your share of the drama queens, snobs and overly flirtatious social butterflies. Once you’re in your 30’s you can now read potential mates better and you now know who to avoid and who to gravitate to. When on first dates you notice red flags quicker and can find the exit in a heart beat. You know what you want and you don’t need to waste time.

  • You’ve Stepped It Up a Notch

We began college we were “fresh” meat. When we started our first real jobs post college we were small fish in a big pond. Now that school is over and we’ve got a few years of work experience under our belt we can feel confident in our abilities. Think of how self-conscious you were in your 20’s. Over time that insecurity has been replaced with a stronger, better and determined adult. Plus more experience equals better opportunities which can lead to better pay. Cha-Ching!

  • You Value Your Time

Now that you’re in your 30’s you find the value in free time. You spent so much of your 20’s setting the foundation for the rest of  your life. Now you want to enjoy it more. And you should! You want to spend time with your family and friends. You want to take up old hobbies that you used to find awesome! Or maybe pursue new hobbies. Don’t wait until retirement to get out there and see the world or learn a new craft. Do it now!

Last year before I turned 30, I was so reluctant to get older. Now that I have crossed that threshold I see how awesome it has been. In no way do I feel diminished. In fact I feel empowered and it is great!

How To Be Successful In 2017

Hey y’all! Let’s get caught up really quickly so you will know what I have been up to. The last time I posted to the blog was in October. There’s no real excuse for my absence other than I was feeling very burnt out mentally and it was effecting my creativity. So I took the remainder of the year to relax and let new ideas for the blog flow in naturally. What can I say, everyone needs a break from time-to-time.

Now let’s get to the title of this post.

While perusing through Pinterest one day I came across a link to a blog post by Sivan Ayla. The original post was “50 Healthy Habits Every Girl Should Consider“. Now initially I wasn’t going to read it because 50 seemed like a lot to remember. However, I went through the list and found several to be very helpful to me. Most of the habit suggestions were pretty simple but were things that we can easily overlook in our day-to-day lives. I decided to take 10 of the habits and elaborate on them more in a YouTube video on my channel.

The 10 that caught my eye were (in no particular order):

  • Start fresh everyday
  • Check your finances often
  • Put down your phone when you’re with people
  • Cut back on sugar
  • Don’t try to keep up with the Joneses, you’ll lose
  • Take care of your clothing
  • Make your home a place you want to be
  • Stand up for yourself
  • Don’t skimp on sleep
  • Prioritize stress management

I think these are all great suggestions that can contribute to you having a successful 2017. Some may seem minor, but the small things add up. Take the time to read the original article by Silva Ayla. There may be a few habits out of the 40 others that you may find more helpful to you and want to apply to your lifestyle this year.

Have a great 2017 everyone! Make the most of your time and energy! Enjoy life!
