Fabulous New You Conference!! Get Yo Life!

Have you ever just been in a funk? You know…feeling like you need a change. You start to feeling like there has to be more that you could be doing with your life. I can relate all too well to that feeling (hence the creation of this blog). The universe has a way of pushing or pulling you into the next stage of your life and if you refuse to move forward you might find yourself thinking about the “Would’ve, Should’ve, Could’ve” lol. Sometimes you need a kick in the butt to kick start (no pun intended lol) the change in your life. On March 20th I attended the Fabulous New You Conference hosted by Aprille Franks-Hunt of Women Recharged. I must say I had a great time. Here’s a little tiny scoop on the event…

The ballroom was very festive yet professional

The event was hosted by Aprille Franks-Hunt the CEO of Women Recharged. The conference took place at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City. Although it was a two day event I only could afford (time wise) to go one day. One nice little sprinkle from heaven was the opportunity for me to run into a former classmate Ceanti, who happened to be working the event as part of the Glam Squad (yes very chic). You should remember Ms. Ceanti, she is one of my Fellow Okies and you can find the interview/questionnaire that she did for me here.

A plethora of knowledgeable speakers

A plethora of knowledgeable speakers

To start off with there was so much energy in the room. All of the speakers present brought something unique to the stage. They were from different walks of life and had there own stories to share. My personal favorite was talking to young and talented entrepreneur Margo from Honestly Margo. She was 12 years old when she began her business and is now 14 years old balancing school, running her own business and all the typical things a teenager has to do. I purchased one of her lip balms and I must say that I was very impressed with the product. Simple, natural ingredients…what more could you need?

The financial seminar was very insightful.

The financial seminar was very insightful.

The topics discussed were sure to hit home with you somewhere in your life. Personal image, staying motivated, financial planning, finding a Youtube presence and even romantic relationships were discussed. I left feeling like I had affirmation that pursuing my goals and dreams was possible…and necessary. It was so awesome and I’m sure they will have it again next year so look out for it. And it is not just for women, bring your boo too. I’ll leave you with a quote that I love from the conference from Ms. Margo herself.

“Put your hater blockers on”.

Chasing waterfalls…trip to Turner Falls in Davis, OK

One of the reasons I began this blog was to not only highlight my own state but also to give myself an opportunity to learn more about Oklahoma.  This Friday I  finally visited Turner Falls located in Davis, OK. It was sometime last year that my boyfriend told me that we had waterfalls close to home.  I knew I had to stop by and see it for myself.

Here’s a lil bit of back story on the location.  A man named Mazappa Thomas Turner married a  local Chickasaw woman and moved to the area. He became a farmer and discovered the waterfall near his land. The city of Davis later purchased the land from the Turner family and helped turn it into the tourist area it is today.20150313_12232220150313_121950The 1500 acre  area is located between the Arbuckle Mountains.  The area has scenic hiking trails, rock castles, picnic areas, RV hookups, swimming pools and of course the 77-foot waterfall.  Even though it was raining at the time of our visit we were still overtaken by the view. There is so much to see. It was very peaceful. The location is open year round, but the most popular time is obviously the summer months. You can find more information on the website www.turnerfallspark.com

A Tulsa Gem: Ida Red Boutique on Brookside

20150307_140953

Hey everyone! Finally the winter weather has broken it’s mighty grip on us. I can’t speak for you, but I am not a cold weather person. I was not built for weather below 30 degrees. So I guess that means I need to spend most of my time in maybe Hawaii or California. Don’t worry, no matter where I would spend the majority of my time I would always be an Okie. But I’ll save that California dreamin’ for another time. This weekend I decided to finally stop by the Ida Red Boutique on Brookside here in Tulsa, OK. I stalk follow Ida Red on Instagram and I like how they market their products without coming across as pushy salesmen. Every post is always simple and delightful. Since it was a beautiful day I headed down to the bustlin’ Brookside District. The Ida Red Boutique has many different products for sale, most of which are locally made products. A cool local apparel company that they stock there is Louis & Cluck. Louis & Cluck have cool Oklahoma-centric clothing including shirts that say “Don’t Hate the 918”. Ida Red Boutique also sell items from non-local merchants. They sell TOMS shoes and sunglasses and Lily&Laura Bracelets. It doesn’t stop at apparel. The store also sales postcards, books, Oklahoma shaped cookie cutters, quirky labeled flasks, bacon scented car fresheners and several different brands of soda pop. I think I did approximately 3 loops around the store before finally deciding what I wanted to purchase. It was not an easy decision because there were a lot of neat things to choose from. I will definitely return to this store. The Ida Red Boutique is located at 3336 s. Peoria in Tulsa. Their website is www.idaredboutique.com. You can also find them on various social media outlets like Facebook and Instragram.
