My On the Go Snacks vol.1

The Snack-tastic Panel

The Snack-tastic Panel

Brace yourself people…we are now in holiday season.  I have a good friend named Hannah who hipped me to the game a long time ago…basically always have yourself a snack handy because you never know when you’ll get hungry.  We all know hungry can easily lead to “hangry” (hungry+angry) if we are not prepared.  Nothing sucks worse than being out and about, whether traveling or enduring an errand filled day, than feeling faint because you can’t remember the last time you’ve eaten that day. Here is my review of on-the-go snacks to nourish you while you’re hustling and bustling from one place to another. *Disclaimer some of these snacks I tried for the first time recently others are my stand by goodies.

Nature Box Big Island Pineapple, Salted Caramel Pretzel Pops and Cherry Berry Bonanza

Nature Box Big Island Pineapple, Salted Caramel Pretzel Pops and Cherry Berry Bonanza

This is my second month trying products from Nature’s Box. Nature’s Box is a snack subscription company that prides themselves on offering a variety of natural snacks. Each month you can choose which snacks you want and how many items based on your subscription price. This month I received the Big Island Pineapple,  Salted Caramel Pretzel Pops and Cherry Berry Bonanza.  I gave the Big Island Pineapple package to my boyfriend because I have a slight allergy to pineapples (weird I know lol). He liked the flavor but wanted them a lil less chewy. Regardless he ate the entire package. The Cherry Berry Bonanza we both along with my mom tried and enjoyed.  It was sweet but not overpowering like candy can be. I even took the package to work with me lol. The Salted Caramel Pretzel Pops did not fair as well with our taste pallets. It was dry and the caramel flavor was not strong enough unfortunately.

Blue Diamond Almonds

I first tried these earlier this year and they’re one of my staple. I’m guilty of having Ziploc baggies of them in the bottom of my purse, as silly as it sounds.  These come in a variety of flavors like Lightly salted, Wasabi and Smokehouse BBQ. I stick with the whole natural flavor. You can also find smaller packages of these at your local gas station.

Ocean Spray Craisins, also comes in a less sugar option

Ocean Spray Craisins are a good option if you’re looking for a healthy and sweet snack. There is a less sugar option available but I couldn’t find it in time for this post.

Quaker Instant Oatmeal Apple's and cinnamon

This is my go to breakfast food if I am running late to work. There’s nothing like warm oatmeal,  especially in the cooler months. Simply add water and pop into the microwave for 1 minute.

Starkist tuna mix

I know I know…you’re probably thinking this is an odd option for this list but I’m a fan of this pre-packaged tuna.

Emerald Breakfast on the go

Me and my taste testing committee (my boyfriend and mom) tried this mix. It was pretty tasty.  The only negative thing is you would probably need to eat about 3 of these pre-portioned packages to really fill sustained for a good amount of time.

Folger's Instant coffee

Folger’s Instant coffee

I must admit my knowledge of coffee is very limited. Even with limited knowledge on the subject I know that instant coffee of this type probably isn’t a good idea. My boyfriend and mom drink coffee regularly so I gave it to them to try. Neither one of them were pleased with it. They said it lacked flavor and the true aroma of coffee. Needless to say this was a “No go”.

Blue Bunny single-serve ice cream

Of course I had to leave you with something sweet.  The Blue Bunny single-serve ice creams are perfect for conquering your sweet tooth without going over board. It even comes with a tiny spoon for convenience.

Of course there are plenty of convenient snack options out there.  You really have to go with what you like best. But most importantly I have to mention the importance of staying hydrated. It’s very rare to not find me with a water bottle close.

I hope you enjoyed the post.  What are your snack favorites? Comment below!

Let your Geek Flag Fly! Geeking out at Tulsa Comic-Con 2014!

20141107_173320

Growing up with brothers that were into all things comic books, super heroes and kung fu movies I have pretty much grown accustomed to  what some may refer to as geeky, childhood fantasy and downright weird stuff. You get older and think you’re over those silly childhood things, then you step into a place like Comic-Con and it all comes back to you. You can almost taste the Fruit Stripe gum on your tongue… as it quickly begins to lose its flavor. The event was held at the Cox Business Center in downtown Tulsa.  I entered the convention feeling a little on the anxious side but curious all the same. The convention was slowly filling up when I arrived.  The staff on hand were very attentive and were eager to help you find what you were looking for as well as doing their best to keep things running smooth.

There were numerous booths setup displaying artwork and memorabilia,  most of which was for sale.  I wandered aimlessly through the aisles trying to see as much I could of what was offered.

Clothing,  action figures, replicas, pictures and light sabers (and yes I said light sabers, think of that what you will lol) were all available for purchase. I had a $20 burning a hole in my pocket but I tamed that beast for another day.

I wasn't supposed to but I just had to get a picture of Lou Ferrigno. The true Incredible Hulk...no CGI necessary lol.

I almost forgot the main attraction for all Comic-Con events is the celebrity guests who come and make appearances, take pictures and sign autographs. Some of the celebrity guests for this  weekend include William Shatner, Ernie Hudson, Robert Englund, Ralph Macchio, Lou Ferrigno,  Dean Cain and Norman Reedus to name a few.

Comic-Con is organized by Wizard World. The convention will be for the remainder of the weekend. The last I heard there were only single day tickets available for Sunday Nov.9th and VIP passes available as well. Saturday’s festivities will begin 10am-7pm and Sunday’s festivities will be from 11am-5pm. For more information or to find out when Comic-Con is coming to your area visit http://www.wizardworld. com
